CULPEPER'S COMPLETE HERBAL

SEA SCURVY GRASS

Description. This sort of scurvy-grass grows to be about as high as the former, but the leaves are rather thicker, longer, narrower, and more pointed at the ends, frequently sinuated about the edges, of a duller green colour than the garden: the flowers and seeds are alike in both; it has a salter taste, not nigh so hot and pungent as that.

Place. It grows in salt marshes, and particularly by the Thamses side, all the way below Woolwich.

Time. It flowers rather later than the garden kind.

Government and virtues. The sea scurvy-grass is frequently used in scorbutic remedies along with the other, but wanting its fine volatile parts, it seems not so prevalent, but abounding more in saline, it may be used to good purpose as a diuretic.
