MARSH THISTLE Description. The root of this is composed of numerous tough brown fibres. The stalk is upright, not much branched, and seven feet high: it is usually of a brownish colour, with a tinge of purple, and is very prickly. The leaves are long, and moderately broad, of a deep green, and set with thorns. The flowers stand at the tops of the stalk, six or eight together; and they are of a deep purple. Place. It is frequent in meadows, and in the Isle of Ely. Time. It flowers in June. |
